The Germans drink wine more expensive.

The German consumers buy less of wine, but with a higher price, according to a study by the German Wine Institute (DWI)

According to the latest report by the German Wine Institute (DWI), the sales of wine in the country decreased 2.8% in volume during 2012, but the German consumers spent 1.2% more in value. Due to that fact, local growers have increased their sales by 2.1%, increasing its market share by 1%. On the other hand, the tendency of the Germans towards the white wine was intensified during the past year.
